Tap into whatever happiness is available to you

Sometimes the happiness we want is not available to us right now. But there is always a happiness available to us, from wherever we are. It’s just about finding it.

Last week I broke down my song, Me & Mine and the two types of “high vibe freedom” that the song highlights.

The two types are basically:

1) happiness through connection and

2) happiness through solitude (another type of connection).

I used to be the total victim of my circumstances. Often, what I wanted did not match what was happening and it bummed me the F out. I felt like I had no control.

The unfortunate thing is, we humans can find ourselves wanting the one type of happiness when the other type is the only one available to us. “The grass is always greener on the other side.”

What a pain in the ass. But there’s a solution.

Life is all about turning lemons into lemonade. That’s one of the main lessons for all of us, I think we can all agree? That’s what this comes down to. I’m so sorry to have to tell you this. It’s such a bummer. BUT at the same time, it’s such a relief.

You can always look for the particular type of happiness that is available to you at any given moment. What you seek you shall find. It’s a great shortcut.

It all starts in your imagination, imagining yourself happy. You + something = happy now.

It’s just about figuring out what that something could be. What other ingredients are you working with?

Maybe you have annoying people around you so the only missing ingredient is boundaries or physical distance.

Or maybe you feel lonely so the only missing ingredient is a peaceful feeling, which you could find in nature.

Another place you can find whatever ingredient you’re missing…. You know what I’m gonna say… MUSIC!!

Music is the totally underrated missing ingredient - it’s an answer to all sorts of questions.

So tell me, what song is YOUR answer to happiness right now?

For me it’s Moi Je Joue by Brigitte Bardot, and of COURSE my new song Me & Mine

Song breakdown: Me & Mine

Last week I released a very light and bright song called Me & Mine

It’s about that feeling of high vibe freedom that you have in two very different circumstances: when you’re both in a group of soul friends and when you’re in nature.

Let’s talk about both of those…

  • Verse 1 captures the type of confidence that you get when you’re having fun in a group you feel like you belong to.

It can even just be with one friend where it feels like you’re on the same team and the game is to be as delighted as possible and you’re both winning. After the past few years, we might feel deprived of these moments that are only possible through in-person connection.

  • Verse 3 addresses the type of high vibe freedom that comes from glorious moments alone in nature.

Now, these HAVE mostly been available to us, thankfully. There is something about being surrounded by trees and hearing the wind in them, and feeling that same wind on your face, that just feels so comforting and liberating at the same time.

  • Now, Verse 2 is basically a joke about living in Sweden, as I did at the time, where in the winter months sleeping in means that you don’t experience daytime that day.

This was super stressful as someone who enjoys sleeping in. So, I balance it out with the chorus, “it’s too fast but it’s alright” - this line really calms me down.

We all have existential angst to some degree, whether we’re aware of it or not. Moments of simultaneous freedom and connection make that angst dissipate in my experience.

I hope this song gives you that feeling as it does for me (and in two short minutes!).

Lyrics:

Verse 1

You know me & mine

Get high all the time

We don’t wait in line

We just take what we can find

We take what we can find

Verse 2

Get up half past late

The sun it don’t wait

If you hesitate

It might be the next day

It might be the next day

Chorus 1

I feel the time going by

And it’s too fast but it’s alright

And every hour is divine

And you got yours and I got mine

Verse 3

Somewhere among trees

Feels like perfect ease

There’s hope in the breeze

Just inhale and you’ll agree

Inhale and you’ll agree

Chorus 2

I feel the time going by

And it’s too fast but it’s so fine

And every hour is divine

And you got yours and I got mine

I’d love to know what part of this song resonates most with you AND/OR if you have any other songs that capture the same feeling!

If you need some ideas, this past Sunday I held a soul sister song circle on the subject of Light and we made a playlist together- check it out here!
